I'm on a Podcast, and more Matt Gray is Trying on the Horizon!
In this update I'm going to share what's going on with both Matt Gray is Trying, and the maker videos on my YouTube, but first:
I'm on this week's episode of the Lateral podcast with Tom Scott!

Despite my association with Tom, this is the first time I've appeared on Lateral! It was great fun to join Abby Cox and Iszi Lawrence as we try to solve lateral-thinking puzzle questions.

You can listen to it on your favourite podcast app or at https://lateralcast.com/episodes/112
I tried to combine trains and music, for a bad pun?!
In all honesty I was expecting this video to be a long-form one, but I ended up with only enough for a short!
(It’s funny because MIDI is short for musical instrument digital interface)
Matt Gray is Trying
Making this series takes a lot of planning and co-ordination, which is why there's been such a gap between videos, but:
We filmed the first part of an upcoming video last weekend! It's a completely different topic, but like with MGIT: Pyrotechnics I'm trying something that's part of a longer process.
Here's a no-context behind-the-scenes photo:

I'm hoping to release this topic by the beginning of February, I've got another topic we're hoping to film in January, and we're in talks with other organisations about some fun stuff we could do together!
I've got a Matt Gray is Trying playlist if you want to catch up on the six episodes we've made so far, which I would not have made without your support!
Matt Makes
I love making stuff, and your support means I've had bits time and brainspace to make fun stuff for myself and share it, rather than work a day job every day. So thank you once again to those of you who choose to pay for patreon membership!
I have several upcoming ideas, including:
- 3D printing your own christmas decoration
- Doing something silly with Lego
- Recycling my 3D printing waste (that I've been collecting)
- A cosplay of a musician's famous outfit
They're not all fully formed ideas, but they're getting there!
I've also got a Matt Makes playlist of past videos, if that's your kind of thing
The Wonderful World of Social Media
There's been a bit of an exodus from Twitter recently! I stopped using Twitter ages ago, but I've been on Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, and Tumblr for years.
I post basically the same stuff across all four, but a bit more regularly on Bluesky and Mastodon.
My social media accounts are always linked from mattg.co.uk, but I'm basically @MattGrayYes on everything
Links
As always, I’ll see you out with a few links to some completely unrelated things that I found interesting:
- First of October's album in a day is always one of my favourite videos of the year. Rob Scallon and Andrew Huang give themselves 12 hours in a studio, and do their best to record a full album in that time. (YouTube)
- HGModernism attempts to cure her lactose intolerance by chugging all the lactose. Brave. Very brave. (YouTube)
- Sophia Tung cosplayed as a driverless taxi. (YouTube)
- I've had Poppy's new metal album Negative Spaces on non stop since it came out the other week. If you're a fan of Bring Me the Horizon, Bad Omens, or similar, you'll probably enjoy it!
- And finally, my favourite take on Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song. It's a 15 second short. How To Get Fired From A Gig Pt. 9 (Ethan Harb)
